In the Ultimate Team mode of EA FC 25, Diego Maradona triumphantly returns to the game after a three-year absence as a Grassroots Greats ICON. Players can now once again feel the enchantment of one of football's most iconic individuals thanks to this thrilling development, which comes after earlier legal challenges over his image rights were resolved.
Following a legal dispute over his image rights, EA Sports excluded Maradona from their games in 2022. Contracts with Stefano Ceci, Maradona's former manager, were the initial source of the conflict. His attorney, Matias Morla, then contested these arrangements, and the court ruled that the initial license agreements were invalid.
This legal stalemate kept Maradona out of the game for several years. But on February 14, 2025, EA Sports made an announcement that these issues had been resolved successfully, enabling Maradona to return to EAFC 25.
The Grassroots Greats ICON event in FC 25 gives players the chance to include Maradona in their Ultimate Team rosters in honor of his comeback. Players who sign up for Ultimate Team between February 14 and March 14, 2025, will be given a Maradona Player Item with a rating of 77, which represents his early career during his 1977 international debut.
Getting the basic card is just the beginning of the fun. Through the three different routes available in Diego's Dream Evolution feature, players can improve Maradona's in-game performance:
1. Diego's Dream I: Enhance Maradona's stats to 87 pace, 88 shooting, 90 passing, 92 dribbling, 40 defending, and 73 physicality. This is Diego's first dream. Along with the Incisive Pass PlayStyle+, this path includes new PlayStyles such as Pinged Pass and Relentless.
2. Diego's Dream II: Diego's Dream II upgrades qualities to 88 Pace, 89 Shooting, 87 Passing, 92 Dribbling, 40 Defending, and 74 Physicality in order to emphasize attacking brilliance. With this development, Maradona gains the Power Shot PlayStyle+ and establishes himself as a flexible attacker.
3. Diego's Dream III: This player enhances flexibility with stats of 89 pace, 87 shooting, 89 passing, 93 dribbling, 40 defending, and 72 physicality. The new play styles are Trivela and Relentless, in addition to new positions such as Right Midfielder (RM), Left Winger (LW), and Right Winger (RW).
With each development path, players can adapt Maradona's skills to fit the needs of their club, which results in an exceptional 89 OVR rating that captures his peak performance in the 1989 UEFA Cup final with Napoli.
